LCG – Lafayette Animal Shelter Breaks Ground

The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center has officially broken ground. In 2019, ABM began working with Lafayette Consolidated Government to program and design a brand new no-kill animal shelter for Lafayette Parish and surrounding areas. This 20,720 sq. ft. state of the art facility consists of two separated buildings connected by two covered walkways. The main building on the public street is the public face of the Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center and is organized with two entrances serving two distinct purposes and workflows, Animal Surrender and Animal Adoption. The entrance lobbies are divided by a unique textured concrete and wood slat feature wall which allows for acoustical absorption and a visual distinction between the two workflows, while still allowing staff to easily transverse between the two sides. The Animal Adoption Lobby immediately looks through a glass wall into the Cat Condo area where adoptable cats are displayed. This building also houses the veterinarian clinic, workrooms, offices and support areas for the business and clinical workings of the entire facility. Adjacent to glass cat area wall in the Animal Adoption Lobby is a corridor leading directly out of the main building to the Dog Dorm building at the rear of the facility. The Dog dorm building is a linear subdivided building containing 94 separated indoor/outdoor dog runs comprised of, 8 Quarantine runs, 8 medical dog runs, 38 stray dog runs, 36 Adoption dog runs and 6 puppy runs. The cost of the project is $7.9 million dollars including F.F.E.
