The Arabi Elementary School Gymnasium was designed for the St. Bernard Parish School Board to replace the existing gymnasium that was damaged and flooded during Hurricane Katrina. This 16,077 square foot gymnasium provides seating for 1,311 people, has a working performance stage, a concessions area, and connects directly with the existing elementary school.
The project was completed for $4.5 million and is constructed of glazed concrete masonry units and structural steel on wood piles, complete with a brick and split-faced CMU exterior veneer. The floors in the lobby and connector are terrazzo complete with the schools logo and the gymnasium floor is a wood sports flooring with an oak wood floor at the stage. The project was completed in late 2012 and is now used by the school and for public sporting events.
