This Performing Arts building at Ovey Comeaux High School was designed to house the newly relocated Performing Arts Academy, which is one of the LPSS’s Magnet Academies which focuses on performing arts, including dance, piano, drama and guitar. The new 21,000 square foot PAA facility connects directly to the existing school building through a glass bridge connector to transverse the elevation differences between the two facilities. The building consists of multiple standard classrooms such as music media, piano and guitar, as well as specialized performance classrooms such as a strings which includes two separate practice rooms, a dance studio complete with sprung floor, and a fully functional black box theater with dress rooms, prop room, sound booth and a catwalk. The black box theater includes tiered moveable seating, short throw projector and full array of audio and lighting to serve as a fully functional black box theater for theatrical productions for over 150 observers. The project was completed in just over 9 months by the Lemoine Company at a total cost of just over $6.4 million .
